6 drug peddlers arrested, significant quantity of contraband substances recovered: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Apr 21 (KNO): Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking, J&K Police have arrested 06 drug peddlers in Anantnag, Shopian & Awantipora and seized significant quantity of contraband substances in separate operations. According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a Police party of PP Janglatmandi during naka checking at Ashajipora Janglatmandi, intercepted & apprehended 03 suspicious persons. Upon search, 2.242 kg cannabis powder was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Arshid Ahmad Wani son of Gh. Mohiuddin Wani & Muzaffar Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Maqbool Mir both residents of Batengoo Anantnag and Mohd Rafiq Sofi son of Gh. Hasan Sofi resident of Zadoora Mirbazar. Moreover, a police team of PS Kokernag was deputed towards Buchoo and adjoining areas for checking, meanwhile one suspicious person at Danwathpora was intercepted and apprehended. He was identified as Ali Mohd Mochi son of Ghulam Qadir Mochi resident of Buchoo Kokernag. During search of a nylon bag being carried by him, 8 kg of charas powder-like substance was recovered. The accused was arrested on the spot and contraband seized as per procedure. In Shopian, a police party of Police Station Imamsahib at a checkpoint established at Manihal Crossing Imamsahib, intercepted & apprehended a suspicious person. Upon search, a 4.340Kgs of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Gowhar Ahmad Wani resident of DK Pora. In Awantipora, a police party of Police Post Toll Plaza, headed by Incharge PP Toll Plaza under the supervision of SHO Police Station Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Katipora Chersoo intercepted and apprehended one suspicious person identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Shaban Bhat resident of Batipora Chersoo. During search, contraband substance (charas powder-like substance) weighing approximately 131 grams was recovered from his possession. The accused has been arrested and accordingly, a case FIR No. /2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been set into motion. All the accused have been arrested and accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations, and further investigation is underway to unearth the broader network involved. J&K Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicate the drug menace and urges the general public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug peddling or illegal activities—(KNO)
