Anantnag, Jan 20 (KNO): To enhance patient care and uphold hospital decorum, the administration of Mirza Mohammad Afzal Begh Memorial (MMABM) Associated Hospital, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, has prohibited outside food for patients while introducing a dedicated diet facility tailored to their medical needs. A hospital official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that this decision is aimed at improving hygiene, discipline and overall care standards within the hospital. He said attendants are now allowed to visit patients strictly between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm, adding that this restriction ensures minimal disruptions to patient care and helps medical staff focus on their duties efficiently. "The hospital now provides four meals daily, from breakfast to dinner, specially prepared to meet the nutritional and medical needs of patients. Attendants can access food from outside facilities such as the hospital canteen," he said. To ensure hygiene and prevent health hazards, patients are no longer permitted to bring outside food into the wards, the official said, adding that the use of polythene bags within hospital premises has been strictly banned to maintain cleanliness and align with eco-friendly practices. The measures were introduced following concerns about improper hygiene and issues such as rodent infestation, which were exacerbated by food brought from outside. The hospital's Incharge Security Officer has been directed to enforce these rules diligently, with strict action to be taken against any violations. The administration has urged patients, attendants and staff to cooperate with the new measures, saying these changes aim to create a safe and conducive environment for patient recovery. "This initiative ensures patients receive hygienic and nutritionally balanced meals while also contributing to better hygiene and discipline within the hospital," the official said—(KNO)
