Srinagar, Feb 05 (KNO): Eleven residential structures were damaged in Srinagar on Thursday in two separate fire incidents. However, no injuries were reported. Officials said a massive blaze broke out in the early hours in Chattabal, damaging ten closely built residential houses, while another fire in Sheikh Mohalla, Makhdoom Sahib, damaged one house. An official from Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the first call was received at 6:31 AM, prompting an immediate response, with the fire tenders dispatched within a minute. “Upon reaching the spot, firefighting teams found 3–4 houses already engulfed in flames. The situation worsened after two to three LPG cylinders exploded, causing the fire to spread rapidly to adjoining structures," he said, adding that a total of ten houses were gutted. He added, “Cooling operations were carried out later to prevent re-ignition, while the cause of the fire is being ascertained. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.” In a separate incident, the official said, a fire broke out this afternoon in Sheikh Mohalla, Makhdoom Sahib, where the attic portion of a residential house caught fire. “Firefighting teams brought the blaze under control quickly, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring structures.” “The operation was carried out with coordination between Fire and Emergency Services and the Police. Preliminary reports suggest a short circuit may have triggered the fire, though investigations are ongoing,” he added. The official said that both firefighting operations were supervised by Divisional Fire Officers under the direct monitoring of Deputy Director of Fire and Emergency Services Srinagar, Dr Mir Aqib Hussain, and no casualties were reported in either incident—(KNO)
