Srinagar, Mar 03 (KNO): Precautionary restrictions imposed in Kashmir on Monday will continue tomorrow, while the decision on increasing mobile internet services from 2G to high speed will be taken after review. A top official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the situation is under review but the curbs would remain in force on Wednesday to maintain law and order. He said that security personnel have been deployed in strength in sensitive areas, including parts of downtown Srinagar and Lal Chowk, to prevent any untoward incident. “In Srinagar, the law and order situation has remained under control,” he added. Another official said the situation was under control; however, minor protests were reported from parts of Sopore, Baramulla, Budgam and Bandipora districts. Meanwhile, the Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir in an order stated that prepaid mobile internet services across the Valley have been restricted to 2G speed, not exceeding 128 kbps, till 8 pm on March 4. An official order said the directions were issued under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024, and Section 20 of the Telecommunication Act, 2023, after authorities assessed the prevailing situation. The order stated that precautionary restrictions were imposed across Kashmir on March 1. “The decision was taken in view of apprehensions that high-speed internet services could be misused, potentially affecting public order,” it added—(KNO)
