Srinagar, May 25 (KNO): Around 80 to 90 trucks carrying sheep arrive in the Valley daily during the final week ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. The Kashmir Mutton Dealers Association (KMDA) said each truck is carrying more than 150 sheep to meet the growing demand for sacrificial animals across the Valley. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mehraj-ud-Din, General Secretary of KMDA, said the supply has increased steadily over the past few days as Eid markets begin witnessing heavy public footfall, especially during evening hours. “Nearly 80 to 90 trucks loaded with sheep are entering Kashmir daily in the last week before Eid. Every truck carries over 150 sheep,” he said. He said apart from the livestock arriving from outside Jammu and Kashmir, local breeders and members of the Bakarwal community are also bringing sheep to various mandis and markets across the Valley. Mehraj-ud-Din said the last two to three days are expected to witness further rush in livestock markets as Eid-ul-Adha draws closer and families begin finalising purchases. He added that detailed figures related to total livestock arrivals, rates and overall Eid business would be compiled and shared after the festival—(KNO)
