Srinagar, May 20 (KNO): A nomadic family in Dobjan area of south Kashmir's Shopian district has suffered the loss of more than 25 sheep following an alleged improper dose administered by officials of the Sheep Husbandry Department. The incident has caused distress among the affected family, who are demanding a thorough investigation and appropriate compensation for their losses. Mauzam-ud-din, a resident of Rajouri currently staying in Dobjan, speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said his livestock was healthy before the incident. He said the animals had become sluggish, following which he contacted the local sheep husbandry authorities. “The officials provided us with a dose of medication that they give every year to sheep. Soon after administering it, a large number of sheep fell sick and died within hours," he said. Mauzam-ud-din said the sheep were fine before the dose. "Afterwards, they started collapsing one after another. We have lost over 25 sheep, which is a significant loss for us. We demand justice and accountability," he said. The family, along with locals, has called for a transparent investigation into the matter, besides immediate support for those affected. An official from the Sheep Husbandry Department Shopian confirmed that an investigation has been started. “We have taken cognisance of the incident. A team has been constituted to look into the matter, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” he said. The official further said that post-mortems of the deceased sheep will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. "If any negligence or malpractice is found, action will be taken as per the law," he assured—(KNO)
