Srinagar, Dec 17 (KNO): Minister Satish Sharma on Wednesday informed 100 per cent winter stocking of essential commodities has been acheived to ensure uninterrupted supplies during the harsh weather season. While speaking to reporters in Bandipora, Sharma, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, the government has successfully completed the 100% winter dumping process in all remote and snow-bound areas. He assured that no household will face shortage of food grains or other essentials during the winter months. In order to keep the youth away from drug addiction, the Minister said that quality stadiums and playgrounds will be developed. “To strengthen the sports infrastructure we will prioritize creating better playfields,” he said. Sharma also promised to strengthen winter sports activities, particularly snow cricket in Gurez and polo events, which he said deserved greater government support. Government is mulling to improve the solar power coverage in the region. "Shrines, mosques, temples and gurudwaras will soon be illuminated through solar energy under a new departmental program,” he announced. While acknowledging the fact that several projects have slowed this year due to adverse weather and disturbances, he assured that Bandipora would emerge as one of the best districts in the coming year. Reacting to a recent controversy over alleged bias in sports selections, the minister said, "the administration had already initiated an inquiry through the Director General of Youth Services and Sports." He appealed for not politicizing the issue and reiterated that merit would not be compromised and involved persons will be held accountable,” he said—(KNO)
