Prime Minister Narendra Modi wednesday chaired two separate high-level meetings at his office to review the security situation in j&k. The meet to discuss border situation was attended by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Army Chief Gen. Dalbir Singh Suhag, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi. Sources said that the NSA briefed the grouping about the internal security situation of Kashmir, especially the manner in which schools and educational institutions have been deliberately targeted by anti-nationals and separatists. He also said that the state govt was a ‘little reluctant; to act against the main culprits’. The Ministry of Home Affairs, sources said, had provided inputs to the state but the state was unable to act and deliver. The Home Minister also submitted a detailed report on the situation prevailing in the Valley. The report was prepared on the inputs provided by the NSA, they said. It is also believed that the NSA presented a roadmap before the PM and others on how to handle the situation in the border state. On the other hand, J&K Governor NN Vohra, who met Rajnath Singh yesterday and discussed the situation in the state, also submitted a report which specifically mentioned that the extra forces are not only needed on the border areas but also in the civilian areas. At the meet, it was also decided that back up support will be given to security forces along the LoC and International Border. The meeting comes a day after eight civilians were killed in firing by Pakistani Rangers. Heavy shelling of hamlets and military posts were witnessed in Samba, Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri districts along the International Border and the LoC. The Border Security Force (BSF) has claimed to destroy 14 Pakistan outposts in retaliation after the civilian casualties in India.
