Anantnag, May 30 (KNO): Authorities on Saturday seized dozens of vehicles for illegally extracting minerals in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. The development came a day after news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), published a news report regarding “illegal extraction of minerals in Anantnag.” Officials said that soon after the report was published in KNO, the officials of the concerned department swung into action and seized dozens of vehicles. District mineral officer Anantnag, Zulfikar Ahmad said after the issue of illegal extraction of minerals was brought into his notice, he along with other officials visited the areas from where reports of illegal extraction were received. “We have seized at least one dozen vehicles including tippers, trucks in Marhama area and have handed over them to concerned police station,” he said. Zulfikar also warned that all people who have been involved in illegal extraction of minerals to either stop extraction or be ready for action. “Those who have extracted minerals recently will be booked in coming days,” he said while requesting general public to inform them if there is any illegal extraction going on anywhere in the district. Meanwhile, locals have hailed the efforts of geology mining department for timely action besides thanking Kashmir News Observer for highlighting the issues—(KNO)
