Srinagar, Jul 23 (KNO): The Wakf Board in Jammu and Kashmir is yet to start updating details of its properties on newly launched UMEED Central Portal-2025, reveals a data presented on Wednesday in Lok Sabha. As per the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the Unified Wakf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) portal was launched on June 6, 2025, under the provisions of the amended Wakf Act. The portal is designed to streamline the management and transparency of Wakf assets across the country. In response to a question raised by four Members of Parliament, Chavan Ravindra Vasantrao, Sudheer Gupta, Dhairyasheel Mane, and Manish Jaiswal, the government confirmed that all State and Union Territory Wakf Boards are mandated to upload property data on the portal within six months from the Act's commencement date, i.e., by October 8, 2025. However, as per the status report to the Lok Sabha reply, the Jammu and Kashmir Wakf Board has appointed 31 ‘Maker’ users for the portal but has not yet initiated the process of updating property details. “No submissions have been made by the Checker or Approver tiers, which are part of the portal's three-level verification system.” The Centre stated that a user manual has been shared with all boards and uploaded on the portal to assist with the data entry process. The three-tier system comprising Maker, Checker, and Approver roles is meant to ensure accuracy and prevent false or incomplete entries. The government said the portal aims to prevent misuse of Wakf properties and promote their better use for public welfare, including the possible establishment of hospitals, schools, colleges, and orphanages. It added that once the properties are fully mapped and digitised, they can be optimally used for the benefit of poor Muslims, widows, and other eligible groups. The Ministry of Minority Affairs said the compliance of State and UT boards will be monitored closely in the coming months—(KNO)
