Srinagar, Feb 22 (KNO): Days after the legislators moved private bills seeking complete ban on alcohol ahead of the maiden budget session, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti on Friday started a signature campaign in Jammu and Kashmir in this regard. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), three legislators from National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) have moved private bills for the upcoming budget session, seeking complete ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir. In this regard, Iltija Mufti kicked-off a signature campaign at the PDP headquarters in Srinagar to spur support for a complete ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir. In her 17 minute video, Iltija has stated that the campaign has been started in Srinagar today and it will be next carried out in Budgam district. She has sought the support from the ruling NC and other parties with regard to ensuring complete ban on the consumption and sale of alcohol. The PDP leader has however; reacted to the statement of NC leader, stating that the ban on alcohol has nothing to do with tourism as the Gujarat like states would have never banned the alcohol. “Drugs and alcohol is a social issue and it touches our society in an adverse way. The parties should not fight on it. We welcome all the parties to join us and help us create awareness among the masses in different districts about alcohol and drugs as both are detrimental to our health,” she said. “We want more interactions with the young generations on drugs and alcohol to ensure that their future is prosperous and they are saved from this evil,” she said. The PDP leader also said that a PDP MLA Fayaz Mir has already moved a private bill in this regard and thus everyone should support it and ensure that the ban on alcohol is ensured. She also appealed people to sign through digitally and support the signature campaign on alcohol ban, adding that they want that Jammu and Kashmir should be drug and alcohol free soon—(KNO)
