Srinagar, Feb 03 (KNO): The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) has welcomed the India–US Trade Deal, describing it as a landmark step that will enhance the global competitiveness of Indian products and create fresh opportunities for export-led growth, particularly for Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), President, KCCI Javid Tenga expressed profound gratitude to the Government of India for its sustained and effective diplomacy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the agreement is expected to pave the way for further easing of trade barriers in the future and termed it a major boost for entire handicraft industry of Kashmir. KCCI noted that the United States has immediately reduced reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods from 25 per cent to 18 per cent, while waiving additional tariffs imposed earlier. The Chamber said this move strengthens the strategic economic partnership between India and the United States and reflects a shared commitment to deepening trade, technology, and investment ties in an increasingly competitive global landscape. According to the Chamber, India–US trade deal will help catalyse manufacturing growth, enhance employment generation, and support the development of resilient and diversified supply chains. Reduced tariff duties are expected to lower input costs, strengthen supply chains, and improve price competitiveness of Indian exports in the US market. KCCI emphasised that for Kashmir, the agreement holds particular significance as it can revive demand for handicrafts, handmade carpets, and other labour-intensive products, thereby directly benefiting artisans, weavers, and small exporters. The Chamber also observed that export-oriented sectors such as textiles and apparel, which are among the largest employment generators, stand to gain significantly from improved trade terms, helping secure existing jobs and create new employment opportunities, especially for women and skilled workers. The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry expressed hope that the momentum generated by the India–US Trade Deal will be translated into tangible outcomes for businesses on the ground, and that regional export centres like Kashmir will receive focused policy and institutional support to fully harness the benefits of expanding India–US economic cooperation—(KNO)
