Over 3500 participants, including 800 from outside region, get ready for event; CM Omar to flag off mega event

Jammu, Mar 28 (KNO): The Jammu Marathon is set to begin tomorrow on Sunday, with more than 3,500 runners, including around 800 from outside the region, taking part in the three categories of 5 km, 10 km and 21 km, officials said here in Jammu. They said the marathon will be flagged off by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, with several celebrities also participating. At a joint press conference, the Director Tourism Jammu Vikas Gupta as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, tomorrow’s program is for the people of Jammu and will cater to all age groups from young, old and children. “Fitness enthusiasts should participate in the marathon. Those who are not runners can enjoy the entertainment planned for the day,” he said. The Director Gupta said Bollywood singer Kamal Khan will perform at 8:30 am, along with Sufi singer Pratish Nirula, who will also entertain as a stand-up performer. “Celebrities like Gulpanak and Milan Suman will run alongside participants. At the Expo, you can also see runners from Kenya and Africa collecting their bibs and t-shirts. There is a great vibe in Jammu,” he said. He urged citizens to not just come but to watch, cheer these runners and amplify this marathon. “Our goal is to make it an annual event. With stronger participation next year, we aim for 1,500 international participants. This will boost tourism, community participation and the local economy,” he said. Meanwhile, SSP Traffic Amit Bhasin also informed that roads along the marathon route will remain closed, with alternative routes arranged for commuters. He assured the public that detailed traffic management plans are in place and requested cooperation from residents—(KNO)
