Srinagar, Jun 29 (KNO): Amidst the rising demand for buses in the peripheral areas of Srinagar district, authorities are considering the addition of 100 new buses to the existing smart bus fleet under the Smart City programme. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL), Dr Owais, speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the existing smart bus fleet is limited and cannot cater to all the demanded areas. "There is a limited availability of buses as of now, and we cannot afford to extend the timings and change the routes to map the timings. However, we have a proposal to add another 100 buses, and as and when that comes through, the bus service will be made available to the demanded areas," he said. Dr Owais added that currently, they don't want to alter the timings and existing routes to ensure the proper availability of bus service for people. It is pertinent to mention that, currently, under the Srinagar Smart City programme, a total of 100 buses are available, of which 25 were added earlier in April this year, with their inspection and trial run overseen by RTO Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari. People expect that the addition of new buses will significantly improve public transportation accessibility in the peripheral areas of Srinagar to address the growing demand for smart bus services—(KNO)
