Srinagar, Jul 25 (KNO): Day temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir plummeted below normal on Saturday following widespread rainfall in the region.
According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) maximum temperatures in several parts of Kashmir were 6–10°C below the seasonal average.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 21.5 degrees Celsius, 8.4 degrees below normal, while Kupwara registered 21.1 degrees Celsius, 10 degrees below normal. Qazigund settled at 20.4 degrees Celsius, 7.5 degrees below normal, and Pahalgam recorded 18 degrees Celsius, nearly 8 degrees below the seasonal average.
Kokernag recorded a maximum of 20.5 degrees Celsius, 6.9 degrees below normal, while Gulmarg, the famous ski resort, recorded 15 degrees Celsius, around 6 degrees below normal.
In the Jammu region, the impact of the wet weather was also evident, though temperatures remained comparatively higher. Jammu city recorded a maximum temperature of 27.2 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees below normal, while Banihal settled at 21 degrees Celsius, 7.3 degrees below normal.
Batote recorded 20.6 degrees Celsius, Bhaderwah 23.5 degrees Celsius, Katra 23.8 degrees Celsius, Rajouri 24 degrees Celsius and Poonch 23.4 degrees Celsius.
In the Union Territory of Ladakh, Leh recorded a maximum temperature of 21.8 degrees Celsius, nearly 8 degrees below normal, while Kargil and Nubra Valley registered 23.2 degrees Celsius and 25.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The drop in temperatures came as widespread rainfall affected most parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The Meteorological Department has forecast intermittent rain and thundershowers over the next several days and warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides at isolated vulnerable places—(KNO)
