12 vehicles seized for illegal extraction & transportation of minerals: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Mar 05 (KNO): Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, Police have seized 12 vehicles in Shopian, Ganderbal & Baramulla. According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in Shopian, during routine patrolling, a police party from Police Post Keegam intercepted three tractors engaged in illegal mining activities without mandatory permissions. In this regard FIR No. 27/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and further investigation has been initiated. In Ganderbal, Police Post Nagbal conducted a special drive within its jurisdiction and successfully seized 03 tippers found transporting illegally extracted Minor Minerals. Acting swiftly, the vehicles were seized on the spot to prevent further illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. Subsequently, the matter was taken up with the Department of Geology and Mining, and challans have been issued against the violators as per the relevant provisions of law. Meanwhile in Baramulla, during a routine checking drive by Police Post Delina at Delina, Baramulla. Police intercepted six tippers carrying sand. During inspection, the drivers of the vehicles were unable to produce valid royalty documents required for lawful transportation of the mineral. Accordingly, action has been initiated under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, and further legal proceedings have been taken as per law. J&K Police reiterates its firm commitment to safeguarding the natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public is urged to cooperate with the police by reporting any such unlawful practices. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential and stringent action will be taken against violators—(KNO)
