Srinagar, Aug 04 (KNO): The headcount exercise of census 2027 will be carried out next month in 1115 villages and three municipalities of Jammu and Kashmir falling under the snow-bound non-synchronous areas. According to details available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the census exercise will be carried out in snow-bound non-synchronous areas of Jammu & Kashmir from September 01 to September 30, with a revisional round from October 01, 2026 to October 05,2026. According to details , the highest number of such villages/ municipalities have been identified in Doda district(305) followed by Kishtwar (158), Baramulla (93), Kathua (48), Poonch (24), Kupwara (49), Budgam (5), Bandipora (28), Ganderbal (7), Pulwama (32), Shopian (32), Anantnag (55), Kulgam (66), Ramban (88), Udhampur (79), and Reasi (49). The municipalities falling under snow-bound non-synchronous areas are Uri, Gulmarg and Kishtwar. These areas have been identified for early enumeration due to their snow-bound status, which makes them inaccessible during winter months. The special exercise ensures that every household in these remote regions is counted before heavy snowfall sets in. For the rest of Jammu and Kashmir, the headcount exercise- the second and final phase of Census 2027- will be undertaken in February 2027. It is worthwhile to mention that the Houselisting Operation(HLO)- the first phase of Census-2027-was carried out in June 2026 in J&K—(KNO)
