Covid-19: Amid lockdown, record spike in J&K: 5,443 new positive cases, 50 fresh deaths | KNO

Case tally at 206,964, death toll mounts to 2,612, active cases increase to 44,307 recovery rate goes down to 77.32

Srinagar, May 07 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Union territory on Friday witnessed 50 deaths due to Covid-19 while 5,443 fresh positive cases highest since pandemic were also reported, taking the number of total active cases in the UT to 44,307. With 50 more deaths the death toll in the UT has reached to 2,612 and the active cases continue to increase and the recovery rate decreases with each passing day. 5,443 fresh positive cases reported on Friday pushed the tally of positive cases to 206,954. The big jump in the positive cases and the mortality comes amid complete lockdown across J&K UT. Of the exact number of 206,954 cases, 127,221 are from Kashmir division and 79,733 from Jammu division. Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that among 5,443 new cases, 3,575 belong to Kashmir division while as 1,868are from Jammu division, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached to 127,221 including 96,970 recoveries and 1,515 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division have reached to 79,733 including 63,065 recoveries and 1,097 deaths. The officials said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 44,307 including 28,736 from Kashmir division and 15,571 from Jammu division. With 2,752 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 160,035 which is 77.32 percent of the total cases. “Cases tested positive in J&K include 1,071 from Srinagar, 496 from Baramulla, 384 from Budgam, 118 from Pulwama, 198 from Kupwara, 568 from Anantnag, 93 from Bandipora, 169 from Ganderbal, 344 from Kulgam and 134 from Shopian in Kashmir division while as 1,868 from Jammu division include 639 from Jammu, 292 from Udhampur, 300 from Rajouri, 37 from Doda, 226 from Kathua, 121 from Samba, 39 from Kishtwar, 95 from Poonch, 67 from Ramban and 52 from Reasi," officials disclosed. Out of 50 deaths reported today, 18 died in GMC Jammu, 03 in GMC Rajouri, 01 in Polo Hosp Mohali, 01 in DH Ramban, 01 in Fortis Amritsar, 01 in ASCOMS Jmu, 01 in SSH Jmu, 04 in Home/ Brought Dead, 01 in SKIMS JVC Bemina, 06 in SKIMS Soura, 01 in SMHS Sgr, 01 in GMC Baramulla, 02 in DH Pulwama, 01 in DH Shopian, 01 in DH Bandipora, 03 in JLNM Srinagar, 01 in CHC Kupwara & 03 in GMC Anantnag. As per officials figures, 51,361 positive cases including 597 deaths and 39,964 recoveries are from Srinagar, 15,480 including 211 deaths and 11,535 recoveries are from Baramulla, 12,967 including 9,968 recoveries and 136 deaths are from Budgam, 8,519 including 6,378 recoveries and 115 deaths are from Pulwama, 7,941 including 106 deaths and 6,434 recoveries are from Kupwara, 9,206 including 6,099 recoveries and 118 deaths are from Anantnag, 6,073 cases including 5,276 and 66 deaths are from Bandipora, 6,089 including 5,172 recoveries and 53 deaths are from Ganderbal, 5,894 including 3,347 recoveries and 70 deaths are from Kulgam and 3,691 including 2,797 recoveries and 44 deaths are from Shopian. In Jammu division, 38,645 including 30,945 recoveries and 613 deaths are from Jammu district, 7,182 including 5,830 recoveries and 71 deaths are from Udhampur, 6,158 including 3,998 recoveries and 85 deaths are from Rajouri, 4,080 including 3,577 recoveries and 70 deaths are from Doda, 5,602 including 4,377 recoveries and 70 deaths are from Kathua, 4,528 including 3,006 recoveries and 67 deaths are from Samba, 3,132 including 2,912 recoveries and 24 deaths are from Kishtwar, 3,478 including 2,660 recoveries and 46 deaths are from Poonch, 3,090 including 2,501 recoveries and 31 deaths are from Ramban and 3,838 including 3,259 recoveries and 20 deaths are from Reasi. As per the daily information bulletin 1,885,550 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 87,419 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 44,307 persons are in isolation. According to the bulletin, 1,627,727 persons have completed surveillance period and 123,485 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 7,557,656 samples are available. Out of 7,557,656 the number of samples tested negative stands at 7,350,702 while as 206,954 have tested positive, among them 44,307 persons are active, 160,035 persons have recovered and 2,610 persons have died—(KNO)
