Adressing the Friday congregration at the historic Jama masjid Mirwaiz said it is sad that Muslims who are fleeing persecuted in their land like the Rohingyas are branded as "illegal immigrants" by the Government of India and called a " grave security threat " and "cause of change in demographic profile "while people from others religions and communities who flee persecution like those of chakma or Tibet are called refugees and their plight highlighted and sympathised with and they are provided with all manner of aid and assistance while actively perusing citizenship for them .He said discriminating against persecuted human being seeking refuge on the basis of religion ,is most unbecoming of any nation and goes against the very grain of humanity and spirit of all religions .Mirwaiz said branding fleeing Rohingyas as "terrorists" and linking them to Pakistan to create a fear psychosis among people in India is extremely unfortunate.
Mirwaiz said GOI should as a huge nation in the neighbourhood provide all possible humanitarian aid and assistance to these poor and hapless people and help in their dignified and safe return to their homeland as its lawful citizens.
Mirwaiz also thanked the OIC member states for their full support to the Kashmiri people's struggle for self-detrmination at the recent OIC foreign Ministers meet.He thanked the OIC for inviting him to attend the meet at UN but for the lack of travel documents he could not.
Mirwaiz also welcomed the statement of Pakistan PM Mr.Khaqan Abbasi at the UN saying that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved justly, peacefully and expeditiously and his call to the Security Council to fulfill its obligation towards the people on Jammu and Kashmir. Mirwaiz said that Pakistan has always raised the Kashmir issue at international fora and asked for its just resolution in keeping with the Kashmiri people's will and aspirations. He said Pakistans diplomatic and moral support is deeply appreciated by the people of J&K .
Mirwaiz said that as far as Kashmiri people and leadership are concerned thay have always wished for better and cordial relationship between India and Pakistan and sought resolution of all issues including the dispute of Kashmir through dialogue. He said India should realize that a military approach and use of brute force can never resolve this issue as Kashmir as it is a political and a human issue which needs to be addressed through a bold approach and a meaningful dialogue process among all stake holders,India Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
